Breast cancer battler: Carly Fiorina, former H-P CEO and U.S. Senate candidate

In 2009, Fiorina was diagnosed with breast cancer, but that didn’t stop her from launching a campaign for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing California. Though Fiorina lost her race against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D), the Republican won her battle with cancer and advocates for regular mammograms and self-examinations. In 2009, she told The Daily Beast, “I discovered my own lump two weeks after receiving a clear mammogram. So had I not been in the habit of self-examination I doubt I would have found it.”
