LANSING | At 9:30 a.m. Oct. 22, Tri State Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, at 2500 175th St., will host its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day walk.
There will be a “meet and greet” social and at 10 a.m., residents, staff and family members will go out for a short walk around the facility with pink balloons in honor of their loved ones. The event is for the support of breast cancer patients and all are invited to participate.
The staff at Tri State will be dressed in pink shirts to commemorate the events. Refreshments and educational brochures about breast cancer and early detection will be given out after the walk to all participants.
”Before I lost my mother, Annie Huff, in 2004, I did not really have a great deal of education and information on this disease,” said Tri State’s activity director Sheila Huff. “Up until then, I took it very lightly.”
But during her mother’s illness and since then, she has been trying to educate women, given any opportunity, to pay close attention to their bodies and become educated on early detection. All of the donations collected will be given to the American Cancer Society towards the cure of breast cancer.
