An emotional Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb celebrated a major milestone during the fourth hour of Thursday’s “Today” show.

Kotb, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, celebrated her fifth year cancer free, and personally thanked her doctors on the air.

The show replayed an intensely moving 2007 interview between Kotb and former “Today” co-host Ann Curry, in which Kotb discussed her journey through her diagnosis and recovery from breast cancer.

“I just assumed I’m pretty healthy,” Kotb said to Curry five years ago. “It’s not going to be me, it’s going to be somebody else, not me.” She later added, “What I get from this whole ordeal is: you can’t scare me.”

When the clip ended, Kotb and Gifford grew even more emotional. Kotb’s doctors, Erin DuPree, the gynecologist who found the lumps in Kotb’s breast, and Freya Schnabel, the surgeon who performed the mastectomy, joined Kobt and Gifford on air. Speaking to both doctors, Gifford said through her tears, “I love you ladies.”

“Can I just say thank you by the way because,” Kotb said while choking up. “Here’s what’s funny. It’s been a long time since that. But when I look at you two, you rarely get to see someone who saved your life. So thanks.”
