HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — UConn researchers are looking into what’s behind a woman’s decision when it comes to breast cancer treatment. This is a tale of two women: Valerie Nye and Tricia Briley both had mothers diagnosed with breast cancer.   Nye tested positive for the gene mutation BRCA-2 with no cancer diagnosis. “At the time I had my ovaries out,” Nye said. Briley tested negative, but was diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancers.
